Dog Island is a barrier island located approximately 55 miles southwest of Tallahassee, Florida. It is located in the panhandle of Florida, 15 miles east of Apalachicola. There are no roads to the island so the only way to get to the island is by boat or small plane. The island is 1800 acres with the Nature Conservancy owning most of the island. There are no stores, gas stations, restaurants or shopping on the island, just peace and quiet.

I have lived on Dog Island full-time for 18 years. It is probably the last piece of "old Florida" left in the whole state.
